Oh man I just started watching The Doorway and already this is Mad Men back to it’s beautiful best. I love how Don doesn’t say a single word for like ten minutes.
I don’t think anybody else has done a permanent divorce like that, or moved people out of their home, or dissolved their businesses or anything. So they were worried. I never said to anyone that Elisabeth was leaving the show. I just said that the character was moving on and you’ll have to watch. That’s what I always say: ‘You’ll have to watch.’ And you know what? If people were angry, God bless them, I’m glad that their emotions are wrapped up in the show. It’s a kind of interest that you can’t pay for… I’m not driven by giving them what they want. I’m driven by entertaining them.
Mad Men Returns with a Special Two-Hour Premiere on April 7th
- 8 episodes in
- Signal 30 and Far Away Places like jesus christ two of the best episodes ever.
- Lady Lazarus: Don staring down the empty elevator shaft SYMBOLISM, SWEET SYMBOLISM.
- He finally did it. Matthew Weiner used The Beatles and all is perfect.
- Killer smog trying to get into Don’s house and poison the family FADE TO THE FRANCIS HOUSEHOLD and FAT BETTY like hm I wonder who that smog is a metaphor for…?

“I hate to break it to you but there is no big lie. There is no system. The universe is indifferent.”
Watched the first ever episode of Mad Men again tonight (I really need to start season two) and it’s honestly just so fucking cool. I’d be so happy in that era, like late 50s to mid 60s. Just suits, women, alcohol and cigarettes. I could live without internet and dvds. It would just be so great strolling down to the cinema to check out the new Hitchcock or Douglas Sirk movie. If only.
I am in love. This is a great fucking show. Some of the best writing I’ve ever seen. Complex, surprising, exquisitely performed and directed. Won’t go into a huge paragraph so here’s a little list:
Favourite episode: Nixon vs. Kennedy
Runner Up: Indian Summer, Red in the Face, Shoot
Favourite moment: Don’s fantastic speech to the Kodak guys in The Wheel
Favourite character: Roger Sterling
Favourite actor: Jon Hamm, Vincent Kartheiser, Elisabeth Moss
Special Mention: Christina Hendricks. Just damn.
Going to finish Season 3 of Buffy, watch Season 3 and 4 of Dexter and finish Season 1 of The West Wing then diving straight into Season 2 of Mad Men.
