Struggling with the notion that it's life not film

#79 Another Earth (2011) Dir. Mike Cahill

It seems like I’ve had this on the “to watch” pile forever so it’s nice to finally check it off. I think Brit Marling is an angel, she is such a striking and refreshing new face in cinema that I’m determined to watch everything she lends her talents too. I really think she’s going to be a very important actress in years to come and her work here, the work in which most people first encountered her through, is as promising as I hoped. Another Earth is cerebral and ambiguous in just the right places but the central relationship between Marling and William Mapother was the least interesting part of it for me. I’ve seen that kind of dynamic in many films before and it never really took any surprising turns. I don’t think this is a film that’s going to really stay with me but the vision I admire and the fact it was made on such a low-budget is nothing short of impressive.

My brother had me watch this movie the other day. It was such an emotional roller coaster. I don’t normally watch...
